LSTS researcher Anatasia Karagianni to present “Feminist Dictionary in AI”

Offline

FARI and Vrije Universiteit Brussel’s Law Science Technology and Society (VUB-LSTS) PhD researcher Anastasia Karagianni will be leading the special event of the “Gender, Law & Technology” Reading Group happening on November 29, 2023, at FARI premises in BeCentral (Cantersteen 16, 1000 Brussels) from 10:00 to 12:00 CET.

During this event, Anastasia will be presenting the “Feminist Dictionary in AI” project she is heading with the support of the Mozilla Foundation. Developed in continuation of the Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence working group of Mozilla Festival 2022, the “Feminist Dictionary in AI” project aims to serve as a tool for creating gender-inclusive algorithms in Artificial intelligence.

The dictionary evolved through interviews with AI builders, AI decision-makers, AI policymakers, and researchers to incorporate diverse perspectives on gender equality, and feminist and queer theories. The aim is to improve the dictionary with more gender-inclusive terms and concepts, foster a narrative change and formulate a gender-inclusive AI environment, ultimately bridging the gap between the understanding and visualizing of a more inclusive AI landscape.
