AI Happy Hour | How AI reshapes medical imaging — from research breakthroughs to clinical impact

Offline

Join us for an evening of networking at our next AI Happy Hour event to explore how AI reshapes medical imaging — from research breakthroughs to clinical impact! This in-person event will take place on Monday 24 November at 17:30 in the FARI Test and Experience Center (Cantersteen 16, 1000 Brussels).

Loris Giordano is a PhD candidate at FARI Institute and at the Department of Electronics and Informatics (ETRO) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Loris holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the VUB and UGent. He studied data analytics, image processing and techniques of artificial intelligence. His interests revolve around AI and its implementation in clinical settings, but also biomechanics. Following those topics of interest, Loris Giordano did an internship at the UZ Brussel in the department of orthopaedics during which he designed and programmed a 3D visualisation tool for hip surgery. His PhD thesis will focus on Computer Aided Diagnosis for the Marfan syndrome, a rare disease affecting the elasticity of human tissue. Loris will also contribute to the genomic data-gathering cloud platform of 101 Genomes Foundation.

Description of the session: Medical images are at the heart of modern healthcare, helping doctors detect diseases, plan treatments, and monitor patients over time. In recent years, artificial intelligence has begun to transform how these images are interpreted — moving from early computer-based approaches to today’s powerful deep learning and generative models. These tools not only allow faster and more reliable analysis, but also open new ways of connecting medical images with clinical knowledge. In this talk, we will explore how AI is transforming the field of medical imaging, from its early breakthroughs to the latest advancements. We will also look at concrete applications, including recent research on cardiovascular imaging, and discuss what these advances could mean for the future of medicine.

Is this for you? Administrators, industry professionals and AI enthusiasts are invited to join this session.

A balanced mix of learning and relaxation – Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions with Yannick, followed by a casual happy hour with snacks and beverages!

This event is free to attend, but registration is compulsory. This event is organized by FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute.
