As part of the upcoming Hear Here 2025 sound art festival, a creative audiovisual installation titled Humming the Ubique invites audiences to experience the unseen energy that surrounds us, on display in the city of Leuven (Belgium) from April 24 to June 9, 2025. This innovative work is the result of a collaboration between artist Aernoudt Jacobs and FARI researcher Lluc Bono, who lends his expertise at the intersection of music and AI.
A partner project of LUMSON, Humming the Ubique brings together several Belgian art and research institutions—FARI, iMAL, IMO-IMOMEC, and De Hoge Rielen—in a shared mission to translate imperceptible electromagnetic (EM) waves into sound and light. The installation features 64 luminescent sound foils, which are brought to life by EM waves collected in real time from four different locations across Leuven. These invisible signals animate the foils, subtly altering their colors based on voltage variations and generating audio using RAVE, an advanced AI sound synthesis technology.
The result is a sensory-rich composition where technology and nature converge, allowing audiences to “hear” the energy that typically goes unnoticed.
The official opening of Hear Here 2025 will take place on Thursday, April 24, featuring a live turntable performance by Maria Chávez at STUKcafé.
For those interested in experiencing Humming the Ubique in person, the installation will be on display at the BAC ART LAB, located at Vital Decosterstraat 102, Leuven, from April 24 to June 9. Click here to learn more about it and visit it.
