Dialoog tussen Azië en Europa om regelgeving inzake digitale diensten te bevorderen

Brussel, België – FARI was gastheer voor een kort bezoek van diplomatieke afgevaardigden uit India, Indonesië en Duitsland, als onderdeel van hun bezoek aan Europa in het kader van het dialoogprogramma dat zich richtte op de recente inspanningen van de Europese Unie om digitale diensten te reguleren. Het bezoek vond plaats op 30 november 2022 bij BeCentral.
Tot de afgevaardigden behoorden adviseurs van parlementsleden uit India en Indonesië, onder leiding van Stefan Samse, directeur van het rechtsstaatprogramma Azië van de Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Singapore. Het dialoogprogramma was bedoeld als platform voor de Aziatische parlementsleden om van gedachten te wisselen over de regulering van technologieplatforms met deskundigen, regelgevers, bedrijfsverenigingen en denktanks in Berlijn en Brussel – waaronder het FARI AI for the Common Good Institute.
Focusing on lawmaking in “digital times”, Prof. Gregory Lewkowicz, Executive director of the Global and Transnational Law Society of the Perelman Center in Université Libre de Bruxelles, and member of FARI’s Scientific Board, welcomed the visitors. He presented use cases of how AI algorithms can alleviate rule-making and administrative procedures, such as the SimpLex project by FARI and the Brussels public administration.
The visit was made four weeks after European’s Digital Markets Act entered into force in early November. The dialogue program focused on two noticeable regulations of the EU to rule digital services including the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and Digital Services Act (DSA) which work together to form a single set of new rules that will be applicable across the whole European Union, with an aim to create a safer and more open digital space.
