What is FARI

FARI is a non-profit university institute on AI, data and robotics focused on the Common Good. We are jointly initiated by two Brussels universities (VUB & ULB) – uniting the interdisciplinary expertise across 10 research groups on AI, data, robotics, social sciences, ethics, and law.

We use Brussels as a laboratory to do research together and build bridges with public administrations, industry, and citizens, promoting urban and sustainable AI, with a focus on urban and public priority domains such as health, mobility, climate and energy, participatory and inclusive society.

About the team

The FARI Central support team helps both ULB and VUB researchers in their research and innovation projects, as well as companies and public administrations in the digital transition of society. How will and can AI, Data and Robotics make a difference in making our society more sustainable?

To help the FARI research community as well as the stakeholders we work with (citizens, public administrations, companies), we are expanding this team that is based @BeCentral (FARI’s offices) to build a stronger institute and develop new services to support open innovation activities and the FARI objectives.

You will work close with the Experience Hub Technical Team. This team is project-focused, with a strong ability to quickly go from ideas or research results to concrete realisations (demonstrations or proof of concepts).

About the position of FARI Experience Centre Curator (M/F/X)

You are in charge of our collection of exhibits (demonstrators, POC’s and artefacts) in the FARI Test & Experience Hub. Your job is to build up the collection(s) of demos that make the Experience Centre of FARI thrive. You develop ways in which AI, Data and Robotics demos can be interpreted, through the events that take place in the Experience Centre. You develop different customer journeys for the different target audiences of the FARI Experience Centre. All of these tasks require the curator to work with the direct colleagues of the FARI Central support Team, as well as close stakeholders in research (ULB/VUB) as well as Brussels Administration (Innoviris, paradigm.brussels) and our other partners.  You can develop new partnerships with third parties in areas such as education, design, communication and marketing. In addition, you may conduct research and may lecture on findings or ongoing activities.

Other typical responsibilities of our FARI Experience Centre Curator include:

– Co-developing and organising new demo’s with a focus to their customer journeys to expand and improve the overall objectives of the FARI Experience Centre

– Organizing and planning events: on request (external partners) as well as from direct colleagues from the FARI Support Team and Research Groups

– Researching, compiling and preparing written information about demo’s and events and publishing it on the institution’s website

– Collaborating with other institutions and partners

– Maintaining records of the events, usages of demo’s

– Ensuring that demo’s and POC’s are properly preserved

– Helping in raising funds and grants

– Training staff and managing volunteers in the usage of demo’s and development of events.

– Closely working together with the technical development team of the FARI Experience Centre

As the FARI Experience Centre is closely linked to the VUB AIXC (https://experience-centre.ai/) we expect you to safeguard both “collections” and demos at display, as well as the events and offerings at both venues. Occasionally you’ll have the opportunity to travel, but the work is mainly during the day and in one of both locations (BeCentral or VUB Campus). The work of a curator can involve some evening and weekend work.
