Brussels, Belgium – FARI AI for the Common Good joined Europe’s industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators during the tech.eu summit 2023 to discuss the future of technology. One of the focal points of this year’s summit is the urgent need for ethical artificial intelligence (AI), where FARI Co-Director Carl Morch joined a distinguished panel on “Charting a way forward for Ethical AI: Balancing innovation and responsibility.”
The exponential development of AI technology in recent years has created enormous opportunities and serious concerns. The need to ensure that ethical issues be integrated into AI systems and applications becomes pressing as AI evolves across industries.
FARI’s commitment to ethical AI is rooted in the belief that technology should be used responsibly to advance society without eroding core human values. By promoting transparency, fairness, and accountability in AI, the institute aims to build trust among the community and foster the responsible use of AI for the common good.

During the tech.eu summit 2023, FARI also showcased its Animal Welfare Project in collaboration with Brussels’ public administration. The Animal Welfare Project aims to address illegal animal selling by using technology and artificial intelligence to assist humans in spotting these illegal activities. The project is based on developing algorithms and software to identify advertisements for animal selling online on various websites automatically. The system classifies whether it complies with the Animal Welfare Legislation in seconds, so the illegal announcements may be traced before any animals are sold, ultimately helping local administrations better protect animals.
FARI emphasizes the importance of collaboration in advancing ethical AI. The institute aims to build an ecosystem that prioritizes the ethical aspects of AI by building partnerships with researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers. FARI aims to inspire and influence the tech community to adopt ethical AI practices as an integral part of their planning and development, driving home the message that technological advancements must go hand in hand with ethical considerations. The institute believes that by promoting ethical AI, we can maximize the full potential of AI while minimizing unintended consequences and safeguarding the rights of individuals.
